Remove the avoidable variables
Use the product on lips in the condition specified by the manufacturer. A thick layer of another balm can change the surface onto which the color is applied. If the tint directions are unclear about layering, ask the brand rather than assuming all combinations are designed to work together.
Observe one directed application before changing it
Note the complete product name, shade and approximate application method. Observe the first result before making changes. One very heavy application followed by immediate wiping may tell you less than a normal application that follows the label. If the result is uneven but the product is comfortable to use, compare one reasonable change permitted by the directions, such as application amount. If it causes irritation, stop use rather than continuing a cosmetic experiment. This is a way to organize your own observations, not a guarantee of staining depth or wear duration.
Before you decide
- Read the exact formula directions.
- Avoid importing an arbitrary wait time.
- Stop the trial if discomfort develops.
